Savannah State University President Dr. Jermaine Whirl, joined by members of the Chatham County Legislative Delegation today, announced a historic $42.8 million state appropriation investment that will support transformative campus facility improvements focused on student wellness, engagement, and long-term student success.
The funding will support critical infrastructure upgrades and the continued advancement of the university’s Student Wellness and Engagement Facilities Project — a major initiative to modernize aging campus facilities and create vibrant, student-centered spaces that strengthen the overall student experience.
“This historic investment reflects what is possible when leaders across the region and state come together with a shared commitment to student success and the future of higher education,” said Whirl. “We are sincerely grateful to the Chatham County Legislative Delegation for their strong advocacy and continued partnership, especially Senator Derek Mallow for helping lead this effort on behalf of Savannah State University.
