In the absence of a proper vaccine, Plasma Therapy is an experimental approach to treat
COVID-19 patients and help them to recover faster.
Plasma Therapy is given only to those critically ill corona patients till date who are not able to
produce antibodies against the virus in their bodies because of diabetes or hypertension, etc.
Plasma is the liquid part of our blood that remains after RBC, WBC, platelets and other cellular
part of blood are removed.
Convalescent plasma is the plasma of the patients who have recovered from COVID-19. Their
plasma is full of antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2. They can help the struggling patients
recover from the disease faster.
AB blood type is the Universal Plasma Donor. Recovered patients from all the different blood
types are encouraged to donate plasma as a pint of their plasma can save two lives.
Donating plasma can cause minor side effects like dehydration or fatigue.
