In this UCSF Medical Grand Rounds, three world-renowned speakers will address a variety of issues surrounding the development of vaccines for Covid-19 – both scientific and political. Professor Peter Hotez is an authority on vaccine development and use in both the U.S. and internationally. He has become one of the most sought-after speakers and interviewees in national media as the issue of vaccines has risen in importance. Jaime Sepulveda, head of UCSF’s Institute for Global Health Sciences, will discuss some of the issues that relate to vaccine distribution around the world, including issues of equity. Heidi Larson, who leads the Vaccine Confidence Project at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, will discuss why people do and don’t take vaccines, and what can be done to influence uptake rates. The session is moderated by UCSF Department of Medicine chair Bob Wachter.
