Vitamin D is so very critical for many parts of our wellness. Most of us know that it is important for strong bones and teeth, but it is critical for the immune system (especially combating viruses and tumor growth), hormones, blood sugar regulation, mental health, and even cardiovascular health. However, as many as 80% of Americans are low in vitamin D, depending on the time of the year.
I encourage you to get with your doctor if you suffer from any of these symptoms because they could be linked to low vitamin D: weakness, chronic fatigue, depression, trouble sleeping, anxiety, weak bones, immune challenges, inflammation and swelling. Your doctor can easily check your level of 25-hydroxy vitamin D levels and let you know if you may need to increase your vitamin D levels. The most natural way to get vitamin D is through the skin, but Americans are now getting less sun exposure due to less outdoor time and wearing more sunscreen. If you live further from the equator, like from mid to northern United States, or have darker skin, it will take more time of exposure to get adequate Vitamin D.
Get with your doctor if you are feeling any of the symptoms listed above, and check out my video for food suggestions. I will be doing further videos on vitamin D in the future talking about what to look for in an OTC supplement.
