WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that ‘herd immunity is achieved by protecting people from a virus, not by exposing them to it’. He added that some diseases need as many as 95 per cent of people to be protected for herd immunity to develop, whereas the WHO estimates that less than 10 per cent of the world’s population has any immunity.
