Hello friends, welcome to my page, holistic nutrition, my name is Joel Radley.  I was asked if juicing is good or bad, or just a fad? She wanted to know the best way to get more vitamins into her diet.

Let’s simplify this. There are two types of foods, building & repairing which are animal foods, and detox & cleansing food which are plants or herbs. Now there is a cross over some plants aid iron absorption from meat & some animal or fats aid vitamin absorption from plants and vice versa.

We know the healing effects of herbal medicines such as echinacea, elderberry or say milk thistle but what about juicing. When we say cleanse or detox were talking about ridding the body of heavy metals or toxins. On juicing there are multitudes of books, testimonies, & recipes online. Dr Gerson used  it as a cancer treatment among other notable naturopaths yet it must be organic raw and cold pressed to preserve the enzymes, nutrients and to avoid toxicity or excess sugar.

We know enteral nutrition which is liquid nutrition has its efficacy in treating GIT conditions and its mainly down to allowing the body, or the digestive system to rest. In the same way juicing removes fibre that impairs absorption, aggravating conditions as vegetables are not easy to digest, whilst increasing vitamins, magnesium, zinc, selenium and other minerals, including some amino acids. Yet whilst it sounds counterintuitive, if its a multivitamin you want organic grass fed liver such as ox or lamb reigns  supreme in potency and bioavailability.

With that said nature puts vegetables on this earth in their entirety. Eating fibre is not a problem for some and you can blend the whole veg up in a smoothie but I would recommend that post healing gut dysbiosis. Be careful you may not be able to digest raw vegetables well if not at all.

I worry that whilst it’s clear you can survive on meat alone, post elimination diet patients forget the wonderful healing properties of certain vegetables. Carrots are antifungal good for fungal infections and green apples have antiparasitic properties as well as help break down liver stones due to its malic acid content.

One thing for sure is our ancestors didn’t have juicers and nobody could eat bags of carrots while sitting. For this reason take precaution. Fruit juices cold pressed or not are pretty much just sugar. Also eating all vegetables raw is not sensible. kale or spinach was seldom ever eaten raw in traditional cultures and new theories  identify the oxalate antinutrients they emit can cause a lot of problems. Goitrogenic vegetables in general could cause thyroid issues especially if eaten raw.

I will put out some recipes shortly but focus on lower glycemic index Fruits such as green apples over tropical fruits  and low oxalate vegetables such as cucumber cabbage and lettuce over spinach and kale.Add ginger or turmeric and a good saturated fat like coconut oil to absorb the fat soluble vitamins.

Drink juices as soon as their pressed and peel skin to prevent fungus toxicity. I like to have juices on fast days or simply do some juice fasts here and there. even adding saltless bone broth to the juice as it’s  tasteless. Ultimately there is no such thing as healthy or unhealthy food, it’s related to your constitution and what your body needs, at that given time, so we have to listen harder. With that said cold pressed juices are a delicious addition to a nutrient dense wholefood diet. If you have a major gut it issues work with a professional and introduces it in time. If you can’t spend the money on an expensive cold press or the amount of veg needed or even if you can, a more economical and nutrient dense alternative is sauerkraut. Let’s talk about this in the next video.

Thank you for watching, let me know your thoughts and experiences, I would love to hear them. I hope you’re having the best day and will come back and share information with us.
