Dr. John SantaLucia delivers a talk for a general audience (geared to adults that don’t have science background) about the science behind the novel Coronavirus/COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2). In this three part video presentation series he uncovers a wide range of topics including the structure of the virus, where it came from, and what makes it extremely contagious. He discusses the disease progression and how that relates to the different PCR vs. antibody diagnostic tests. He talks about the different types of vaccines and the breakthroughs made companies such as Pfizer and Moderna. He addresses the topic of herd immunity and some misconceptions that people have about it. The effectiveness of masks is discussed. Lastly, he answers questions from a diverse audience about many aspects of the virus. The talk was hosted by Rev. Susan Mozena from Grosse Pointe Memorial Church.
