A new report from Public Health England has found that people who have survived Covid have as good an immune defence to future infections as people who have been vaccinated. The report said people who have had Covid are 83% protected from contracting it again for at least 5 months, compared to people who have not been infected. People who receive the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine are expected to gain 89% immunity after three weeks with that level of protection rising to 94% once they receive the second dose. Public Health England researchers found between June and November out of 6,614 participants who had tested positive for antibodies there were 2 ‘probable’ reinfections and 42 ‘possible’.
