More than 97% of the 1,536 Israelis who died of coronavirus in the past 30 days hadn’t been vaccinated, a sign that the country’s aggressive immunization campaign is saving lives.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has urged the public repeatedly to get shots, said the government is seeking ways to provide incentives, such as giving people who have been inoculated access to cafes, museums, cinemas, sports events and hotels.
“Do not listen to fake news,” Netanyahu said on Tuesday at a vaccination center. “Go and be vaccinated and save your lives.”
Israel’s fast-paced vaccination drive, which has delivered more doses per capita than in any other country in the world, has slowed in recent days, despite a decision last week to expand the drive to all eligible age brackets.
