Extensive drinking of alcohol reduces the function of white blood cells. These are the front-line of immune defence, which detect viruses and bacteria and then produce a chemical to summon other immune cells to fight the infection. A study found that WBC’s exposed to the level of blood alcohol found from drinking four or five drinks a day for a week produced only a quarter of the chemical compared to those which were not exposed to alcohol.

Which suggests you shouldn’t be drinking extensively during coronavirus (and nor should you be drinking heavily after the pandemic has subsided, for that matter).

In summary then: excessive alcohol is bad for your immune system and it’s important to keep your body fit to fight successfully with this virus.
Exercise, hydrate, eat vitamin C rich foods and take care of your health. Afterall health is the biggest wealth!
