There are drugs and supplements that one can take to treat the condition and to boost the immune system. So today we’re going to be talking about some of the supplements for HIV patients. As we all know, anti-retroviral drugs remain the only treatments for HIV and to help reduce the viral load. However, there are some supplements for HIV patients which they can take to boost their immune system and their immunity. Number one supplement is multivitamins. Multivitamins help fill nutritional gaps which are common in HIV due to malabsorption, poor diet and vomiting. However, it’s important to avoid mega doses as so as not to overload the kidneys and cause the kidneys to wear out. Number two is vitamin D. Vitamin D supports bone health. It helps the mood and it boosts immunity. However, it’s important to avoid overdosing. You have to take doses of 1,000 international units daily. That is the daily recommended dose for HIV patients. 1,000 international units of vitamin D daily. Number three supplement is vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 helps um supports nerve health. As HIV patients are prone to having neuropathy, they need a supplement that will help improve their nerve health and restore and treat the neuropathy. And this multivitamin is vitamin B12. Number four supplement is zinc. Zinc supports immunity and it helps lower viral load. Number five supplement is selenium. Selenium slows HIV progression and supports immune function. Number six supplement is omega3 fatty acids. Omega3 has been proven to reduce inflammation and support heart health. However, you have you shouldn’t overdose on it. You should take a dose of 1,000 mgram per day for omega-3 fatty acids. Number seven supplement is lactobacillus probiotic. This reduces diarrhea and improves the gastrointestinal and digestive health of the patient. Number eight is iron to treat anemia. HIV patients are prone to having anemia. So it’s important for them to take iron to treat the anemia. And then folic acid as well. iron and folic acid and vitamin C to boost immunity. Vitamin C has been shown to boost immune status. So it’s important for HIV patients to take vitamin C to boost their immunity and to also help eye with iron absorption. So we have come to the end of today’s topic. Thank you so much for listening.
