Today I sat down with Nurse Practitioner Sissy Hernandez at the Health & Vitality Clinic in Gambrills, Maryland for an eye-opening Wellness Wednesday conversation.
In just six minutes, she broke down:
✅ Why I came in today for blood work to test food allergies and sensitivities
✅ The difference between food allergies and food sensitivities
✅ The critical role of Vitamin D and hydration in overall health
✅ How infusion therapy can support energy, immunity, and recovery
✅ Why preventive health is the foundation of long-term vitality
This was a powerful reminder that health isn’t just about reacting when we’re sick it’s about taking steps now to stay strong, active, and resilient for years to come.

So we’re doing the food allergy today. So the food allergy it is important test to know so that we can see what is causing the irritation all over your body. Okay. Sometimes your body can be inflamed. It can you can have GI problems. You can have a skin problems. You can have uh immune problems and everything h comes from your gut. Okay. So this test what we’re doing is uh checking and analyzing 200 over 200 different uh food plants and allergens that can cause inflammation within your body. Okay. So once we know exactly and the test is going to break down exactly what is it causing the allergy versus a sensitivity. Mhm. So, you know, the sensitivity is something that is not going to cause an allergic reaction, but it’s damaging your body inside silently. So, once we figure it out, so we start making changes. Yes. In the food and the things that we do in our daily living. Okay. Okay. So, then you’re going to start seeing better uh health outcome. Yes. In your body, right? That’s what I need. Exactly. Because not everything is a pill, okay? We are used to just going to the doctors as we discussed before when we are sick. Okay? But now we’re trying to find out the root causes of you know what can be what can be going wrong with my body. Right? And you know sometimes just doing a simple test like that tells us a whole range of you know different conditions that we can just either reverse or eliminate. Absolutely. through this test. Yes. So, you know, I’m happy that you decided to do it today. I’m so happy and it’s going to be in wide eye opening for you. Yes. And you will say, “Wow, this is what I need to do, right?” You know, depend on the condition that you know, we are trying to find out the root cause, right? Absolutely. Cuz I’m trying to live as long as I can and you know the most important is to live longer and healthy and independent and independent. Yes. Absolutely. being able to uh be as you know be able to take care for yourself not depending on on other people to take care because as we age we need to continue living well right yes and did I explain to you before the difference between um you know the chronological age and the biological age right did I explain that to you before you did okay you can do it again the chronological age you know is the year you know I’m 45 years old I cannot change the year that I was born. Right. Right. But I do have the possibility to change my biological age. How old my cells are inside because we are made of trillions and trillions of cells. Okay. And every cells, every organ in the system is small world. Okay. So we can reverse that. Okay. I can I can be 45 years old but my biological age can be 30 if I take care of myself through exercise to eating a regular diet to getting you know vitamin infusions to uh uh doing different stuff just to you know heal my body inside. Absolutely. So that reminds me because I got to try we got to work on my memory. What do I need to do going into the winter? um because I have seasonal so we need to uh boost your immune system right so vitamin C vitamin D are potent okay uh um vitamins that help you to uh um potentiate your immune system so that any bug that it comes No I wasn’t talking about bugs I was talking about seasonal effective disorder seasonal effective disorders like like you have uh you feel down you have those blue moments when yeah you know that can be easily resolved by having good vitamins in your body, having the vitamin D levels stable. Did I talk to you about the vitamin D before? No. So, well, the vitamin D has over 400 different processes in the body. Okay? And vitamin D can also affect your mood. Believe it or not, vitamin D can make you depressed, can make you anxious. All right. When your vitamin D levels are, you know, rock bottom, right? Wow. So in somebody people after 40 years old we recommend having vitamin D levels 80 to 100 100 it’s in the top. Oh we did talk about that part. Yes. So and I don’t know what your vitamin D levels are right now. Right. Okay. So we need to also make sure that we check your vitamin D. Have you checked your vitamin D lately? No but I’m actually scheduled to get blood work done uh when today. But I’m not going to do it today. Probably tomorrow. Oh okay. So, what I want you to do is also uh ask your doctor to check your vitamin D levels. Okay? Usually, they don’t check it and the insurance only pay once, right? I don’t know if they checked it anytime this year before. Let me look through some blood work. You send it to me. Okay. I can review it before. Please do. Yeah. Just say I can review it before you go. Okay. Okay. Um so that you know having stable vitamin D levels help us not to develop osteoporosis osteopenia help us with our mood with the skin with your immune system. So anybody anytime that you feel under the weather right you know you’re getting a a um virus infection something like that come and you know load yourself with vitamin D and vitamin C and you know that virus is not going to do anything in your body. Maybe you’ll be sick one day instead of the whole week. This is fascinating. It is. And you’re a registered nurse? I am. We are both nurse practitioner. You know, we both completed our master’s degree. Wow. So, in in in um you know, holistic care, uh preventing care and also aesthetics. So, this is the area that we really aesthetics. Yeah. Love to focus because you need to be healthy inside and you also need to look great outside, right? Salute.
