Did you know that multivitamins can do more harm than actual good? This is all about the potential multivitamin scam. And you want to make sure, especially if you are taking a multivitamin or any vitamin for that matter, that it doesn’t contain some of these synthetic nutrients. Now, this was discovered years ago, that synthetically derived nutrients could be made in the laboratory. A great example, number one on my list, is ascorbic acid. And what they do is they’ll extract that ascorbic acid, vitamin C, from something like genetically modified corn syrup. They’ll use an acid like sulfuric acid to extract that ascorbic acid. Now, this is synthetically made. It’s going to lack all of those important co-actors, for instance, citrus bioflavonoids that would naturally be occurring in the fruits and vegetables that make that vitamin C be and have that proper absorption and bioavailability in your body. So, when they’re stripping these synthetic nutrients from maybe potentially an original source, how well is that actually going to work in your body as that synthetic form? Okay. Number two on my list, part of that multivitamin scam is synthetic vitamin B6. You’ll see on your vitamin label, it’ll say vitamin B6 purodoxine hydrochloride in the brackets. This is an indication again that this is a synthetic vitamin B6 that can potentially cause a lot of side effects for people that especially are sensitive to this again made in the lab. It’s not a natural vitamin B6 which is naturally occurring in whole foods. Okay, number three on my list is vitamin B12. Here’s a great example again of a synthetic vitamin in the wrong format. Cyanocobalamin. it has cyanide in it and your body has to release small amounts of cyanide as it’s breaking down in at least four steps of metabolism of that cyanocobalamin. So make sure that you’re not ingesting this form of B12. Okay, number four on my list, something else to watch out for in your multivitamin is folic acid. Folic acid does not exist in nature. Folate does and it’s naturally occurring in green leafy vegetables. Folic acid does not occur naturally. So, this is something again you want to be aware of this synthetic nutrient potentially in your B vitamin, in your folic acid supplement, in your multivitamin. Number five on my list is magnesium and calcium that are in the same tablet. Magnesium and calcium being the big ones and the common ones, but really ideally if you want to absorb them properly, number one, you want to get them in a more natural state and number two, you don’t want them to be absorbed at the same time. They actually compete for absorption. So you can maximize your benefits of your magnesium by taking it separately from your calcium. Now if you are going to take a multivitamin, I do suggest you’re always looking for whole food multivitamins made from whole fruits, whole veggies that have been freezedried. Something to look for on your label for a whole food multivitamin. And make sure that your multivitamin doesn’t have added fillers like the big one that’s usually in most multivitamins is microchrystalline cellulose. And also not any flow agents. The big one, magnesium stere, which is found in most multivitamins out there, especially the synthetic ones. It’s a flow agent that we really should not be ingesting. You can learn more in this video. Avoid magnesium sterate in your vitamins. You’re going to learn why.
