Now that it’s a little bit colder outside, a lot of people have been asking me if I supplement vitamin D in the winter. And the short answer is no. Not medical advice. And I’ll be doing a full article on this over the weekend. So, comment newsletter underneath this reel if you want to get on my list. And the thing that’s important to understand is vitamin D isn’t just some nutrient you can capture in a pill. It’s a lightenccoded hormone signal. It coordinates dopamine, nitric oxide, melanin, mitochondrial redux, immune timing, and melatonin. And you can’t do that in a pill. And I already know what’s coming. I take D with K2 and magnesium. And honestly, K2 and magnesium are helpful and they matter. They help manage calcium, but K2 and magnesium don’t replace the signals that sunlight gives your biology that are absolutely crucial. They don’t entrain your circadian clocks. They don’t stimulate opsins in immune cells, which is really important for health. They do not trigger UVA driven dopamine or nitric oxide. Regulate your vitamin D receptor with real photo period timing. They don’t create sulfated vitamin D in the skin. They do not maintain retinol balance, which can be problematic. And they don’t preserve your natural endogenous D production. and they do not most importantly align a immune function to the season. So K2 can fix part of the pathway, but it’s not going to recreate the environmental context your body expects and needs. So even with K2 and magnesium, you can still run into issues if you bypass light, especially things like altered thyroid and retinol physiology, disrupted immune rhythm. Natural D production can actually be downregulated. Calcium handling can still be context mismatched and circadian and mitochondrial signaling can be ignored. So I’m not anti-supplement. I’m just more of looking at biology. And you can’t fix a light deficiency with supplements. Supplements give some nutrients to your body. So, I don’t wipe all those off as unnecessary. But sunlight is going to give your body instructions. So, if you want to learn more about this, I’m going to do and what you should do instead. I’m going to do a full article this weekend.
