Cell biologist and comparative immunologist, John Henson, will discuss his research in this virtual program titled, “The Science of COVID-19: Aspects of Infection, Immunity, Treatment and Testing,” on Tuesday, April 28 at 7 p.m.
Members of the public are invited to watch the discussion and submit questions in the comments section of the YouTube live stream. It is free and open to the public.
Henson will discuss the current understanding of how the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 damages the lungs and produces an immune reaction, the potential treatments, and vaccines. He will also explore various testing strategies for the disease.
Henson is the senior associate provost for Academic Affairs and the Charles A. Dana Professor of Biology at Dickinson College. His teaching interests include topics ranging from infections vs. immunity, global health and the origins of pandemics. He contributes to classes in biology, biochemistry and molecular biology as well as the health studies program. He has many years of external research supported by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. While Henson was a William C. Foster science fellow at the U.S. State Department, he worked on H5N1 pandemic influenza preparedness in addition to biological weapon nonproliferation.
