Vaccines do not cause autism. Here’s how they work.

With the dangerous disinformation about vaccines being spread in the US right now, here’s a quick animated explainer of actual facts.

This is a clip from the Vaccines episode of Science With Sophie: Season quaranTHREE, the @tellyawards -winning season we made in quarantine during COVID lockdown. I made this episode to help kids understand how vaccines work and why they’re safe… not only that, they’re medical marvels that let us protect *each other*!

I hope it helps you too. Please send to someone who needs a refresher on the science.

Full episode on my channel 😘 (in which I get vaccinated in #newyorkcity)

Vaccines cannot cause autism. Here’s how they work. I’m Sophie, your friendly neighborhood science comedy expert. There’s a lot of disinformation about vaccines going on right now. So, I want to share this clip from the Science with Sophie episode about vaccines that we made during the pandemic because I wanted to share with kids a breakdown of how the science of vaccines works. I hope this helps. Please share it with someone you know who might need a refresher on the science of vaccines and why they are safe. Stay healthy, stay informed, and let’s protect each other. Vaccines protect you against germs that make you sick, like a virus, by activating your immune system before that virus shows up. Vaccines do this by using a harmless form of that virus, like a destroyed version, a really weak version, or just a little chunk of that virus or just the genetic code for just that chunk or just a piece of that genetic code. That form of the virus doesn’t make you sick, but is recognized by your immune cells, which fight it off and remember it. So next time it comes your way, your body is like, “Oh, you again, germ. No thank you.” This is called immunity. Your body’s power to protect you from disease. Thanks, vaccines. [Music]
