hi I’m Dr Brian thorberg and I received a really interesting and important question from a dad he was asking about circumcisions if the baby is taking oral vitamin K or if the baby didn’t take vitamin K if it’s injectable there’s not a problem any OB or pediatrician will circumcise the baby right after birth if the baby took the injectable form of vitamin K but a lot of Physicians will not perform a circumcision if oral vitamin K was administered because there are 12 doses of oral vitamin K versus the single dose of the injectable form the physician feels more comfortable with all doses have been administered so they know that the baby then has received what is an equivalent internal measurable dose of vitamin K in the baby I do do circumcisions after the baby takes the first or possibly the second dose depending when the circumcision is done the doses are done weekly there is never been a bleeding issue I don’t in my opinion think there is a reason to not circumcise a baby if they are on oral vitamin K drops the baby that does not take oral vitamin K I don’t do a circumcision on it would probably be fine but the liability is not something that I am willing to risk there is a balance between what a parent wants and just what protects the physician who is in a business and in a practice arguably yeah there’s probably not a problem again there’s a balance so I don’t do it but maybe there’s a physician out there does it but I have no problems with after one or two doses of oral vitamin K same thing for piercing years I don’t have a problem doing that with one or two doses three doses of vitamin K thanks
