Pune: Dhanori saw a vibrant display of community participation on Sunday as hundreds of residents turned up for a large-scale Green Marathon promoting environmental conservation and physical fitness. The event, organised by Mata Jijau Pratishthan in association with former corporator Anil Tingre, youth leader Vishal Tingre, and several local social groups, attracted enthusiastic runners from all age groups.Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol flagged off the marathon at the Dhanori Check Post and commended the community for its strong commitment to environmental protection and healthy living.Mohol said, “Initiatives encouraging fitness and ecological balance are essential in today’s urban settings, where citizens must actively contribute to sustainability efforts.”The marathon route culminated at the Dhanori Forest Park, where winners received bicycles and cash prizes to further encourage eco-friendly mobility and active living. Anil Tingre said, “More than 10,000 participants joined the event, reflecting widespread public support for cleaner neighbourhoods and greener urban spaces.”Concluding the event with a symbolic pledge to nature, participants and organisers planted saplings inside the forest park. Tingre said the marathon aimed to inspire residents to adopt environment-friendly habits and stay physically active, reinforcing the broader goals of the Fit India movement. The gathering marked one of the area’s largest community-driven initiatives for environmental awareness.
