Hy-Vee shoppers can now access a FoodHealth Score through the grocer’s app and website to compare the nutritional value of foods.

Hy-Vee developed the FoodHealth Score through a partnership with nutrition intelligence firm FoodHealth Company. The score uses a 1-100 scale to rate foods based on nutrient density and ingredient quality, allowing customers to compare items ranging from packaged goods to fresh produce. Higher scores indicate more nutritious products.

The score reflects how closely foods align with dietary patterns linked to a reduced risk of chronic disease.

“The grocery store is one of the most important health care environments in America,” said Samantha Citro Alexander, founder and CEO of FoodHealth Company. “This launch gives shoppers greater confidence that Hy-Vee supports their health goals.”

FoodHealth Score Insights show shoppers how individual products rate, while Better-For-You Options highlight healthier alternatives available in the store.

“With the implementation of the FoodHealth Score in our app, we want to make healthy food options more accessible and transparent,” said Hy-Vee President Aaron Wiese. “This builds on the dietitian and pharmacy services we already offer and supports our broader food-is-medicine approach.”
