A new marine-based magnesium supplement Vital Ocean Magnesium aims to offer whole-body benefits and fill the gap in adequate intake levels through a natural formulation, The Synergy Company announced in a January 6, 2026, press release on the launch of the supplement.1 The press release highlights that the supplement is unlike a synthetic isolate in that it offers synergistic and comprehensive benefits through multiple natural sources of magnesium, aiming to support cellular vitality, sleep cycles, mood balance, and stress resilience.

Vital Ocean Magnesium is sourced from organic seaweed, algae, and purified seawater, drawing from organically grown sea lettuce, spirulina, Irish sea moss, and red algae. Additional trace minerals and micronutrients include iodine, selenium, zinc, calcium, potassium, and iron, complementing the health benefits of magnesium beyond a conventional supplement, the press release states, adding that the multiple sources also support improved absorption and gut tolerance.

Based in Moab, Utah, the Synergy Company is Certified B Corporation and a vertically integrated manufacturer of USDA Certified Organic nutritional supplements. The company states that sustainability is a focus across its development and manufacturing processes, using a blend of seaweeds that are Certified Organic tank-grown, ocean-cultivated, and wild-harvested.

The role of magnesium in the body

As the press release explains, the mineral magnesium is crucial for more than 300 biochemical processes in the human body. It highlights a recently published review, “Magnesium: Health Effects, Deficiency Burden, and Future Public Health Directions,” which explains that magnesium is a cofactor for “hundreds of enzymatic reactions that regulate energy metabolism, neuromuscular function, cardiovascular health, bone integrity, immune defense, and psychological well-being.”2

Adequate levels of magnesium levels are associated with healthy aging, cardiometabolic resilience, and other benefits, the study explains.

Magnesium deficiency and supplementation

Deficiency remains a global issue, as factors including lifestyle and chronic disease affect individual intake levels, the study explains. Lack of magnesium is associated with migraines, depression, inflammation, osteoporosis, and other conditions. Additionally, a significant portion of adults – up to one third globally – do not meet the daily recommended levels of magnesium through dietary intake alone. Intake recommendations can vary based on gender, age, pregnancy, menopause, and lifestyles, such as athletes with increased physical activity levels.

Supplementation may become a complementary support, though the bioavailability of magnesium supplements affects its efficacy, the research adds. As explained in the study, “Magnesium does not act in isolation; it modifies, and is modified by, calcium, potassium, trace elements, and key vitamin-dependent pathways that govern neuromuscular excitability, energy metabolism, bone mineralization, and systemic homeostasis,” which connects to the formulation of Vital Ocean Magnesium.

Consumer preferences for wellness and supplement quality

The links between wellness, consumer choices, and nutrient quality are significant, explains Jennifer Briggs, CEO of The Synergy Company, in the press release. “After decades working across consumer-packaged goods and now wellness, I’ve seen a growing shift toward more intentional choices about what we consume, how we live, and what we expect from the brands we trust,” stated Briggs. “Vital Ocean Magnesium is an expression of that movement, bringing together full-spectrum, ocean-derived minerals in a way the body recognizes and responds to. This is what excellence looks like when nature leads, and an invitation to experience what’s possible when we follow its design.”

An increase of consumer demand for clean-label and nature-based supplements is also on the rise, the press release adds.
