A settlement was reached between the Alabama Attorney General’s Office and the owners of Cullman’s Aurora IV and Wellness Clinic.

Attorney General Steve Marshall said the owners, Amanda and Chris Medders, agreed to permanently close the clinic and pay over $17,260 in damages to patients who submitted complaints to the AG office. The owners will also pay $7,000 in penalties and fees and will not be allowed to do any work in the healthcare industry that involves direct treatment of patients.

Amanda Medders has surrendered her nursing license to the Board of Nursing.

“Exploiting the need for medical GLP-1 weight-loss medication by using unapproved, research-grade chemicals on unsuspecting patients is an extremely reckless form of consumer deception,” said Marshall. “This type of dangerous disregard for patient safety will not be tolerated in Alabama.”

In November, the AG’s office accused the business of deceptive trade practices by injecting laboratory research tirzepatide and semaglutide, GLP-1 infusions, claiming they were “pharmaceutical grade.” Marshall said the drugs were sold for laboratory research and were not to be used by humans or animals.

The defendants have not been charged criminally and were not found guilty of a crime.
