“Exercise is primary prevention at its best,” notes Family Practitioner Dr. Jeffrey Ellerhorst. In his Garrettsville practice, it’s common for Ellerhorst to encourage his patients to exercise to avoid illnesses or to help exacerbate the effects of chronic conditions.

Dr. Ellerhorst worked as a Physical Therapist for a decade before turning to Family Medicine, giving him firsthand knowledge of the importance of exercise to stave off illness. As a nearly lifelong resident of Garrettsville, when the opportunity arose to help encourage a healthier community, he jumped in with both feet. “I love being a doctor,” he shared. “And helping to provide an affordable place that can help keep our community healthy makes so much sense.”

TLC Health & Fitness Coach Angela Bailey explained, “It’s been proven that exercise helps with longevity. And we all want a good quality of life as we age.” She explained, “Working out isn’t about vanity – it’s about avoiding aches and pains and creating better health. We’re passionate about helping our members improve, whether their goal is to build strength, improve mobility, or just feel better.”

In their first year, patients would see Dr. Ellerhorst at his office next door. They knew they needed to exercise but didn’t know how or where to start. They toured TLC Health & Fitness and found the answer. “Seeing what we’ve been able to accomplish since then, the impact is more than we ever thought. We’re excited for the future.”

At TLC, fitness feels welcoming, not overwhelming. Whether you’re just getting started or returning to a routine, their goal is to help you move so you can feel and live better. The full-service facility provides gym access, group fitness classes, a heated pool, and sauna — in a supportive environment where you can focus on your health at your own pace. Backed by a connected medical office and overseen by healthcare professionals, TLC is more than a gym. It’s a place where wellness and prevention come together.

“TLC is a hidden gem in Garrettsville,” Bailey noted. “And we want people to know all about it,” Dr. Ellerhorst added.

Membership includes orientation to the Club and equipment and a full-body program tailored to your fitness level and goals. If it’s been a while, or you’ve never been to a gym, they’ll make sure you know how to use the machines properly. Group and individual classes are also available including swimming, water aerobics, total body & core classes, and Tae Kwon Do. Annual or monthly memberships for individuals, families, or seniors are available.

“It’s wonderful to see parents come in, building healthy habits with their kids. We’ve seen nice, steady growth over the past year,” Ellerhorst noted. “Our goal was to create a place where  families or individuals could exercise safely and comfortably.”

“At TLC, you won’t feel pressured or intimidated like in some gym settings,” Bailey explained. “We offer lots of support. We’re here to help you figure it out.”

Bailey explained, “We all know what we should do, so why don’t we do it?” That’s where her degree in Sports, Exercise, and Performance Psychology comes in. “Our goal is to show people how to take those positive steps in a way that’s sustainable,” she explains. “We’re here to help with the right information and the proper techniques to help accomplish their goals.” She added, “We’re here to bridge the gap between knowing what you need to do and actually getting it done.”

In November, TLC hosted their first annual Turkey Trot 5K for the entire community, with proceeds raised for charity. Due to its success, they plan to host similar events each quarter. Details about their St. Patrick’s Day 5K will be coming soon.
