Humann cofounder and CEO Joel Kocher said his Austin-born and based wellness company believes cardiovascular health is “not a niche or trendy fad,” and has developed a range of cardiovascular health products since 2010.
The background
Humann was founded from a University of Texas Health Science Center research program, Kocher said. The program emerged from the work of Dr. Ferid Murad, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in medicine in 1998 for discoveries around nitric oxide and and cardiovascular function which Humann utilizes in its products.
“Nitric oxide is considered to be the most important molecule in the cardiovascular system,” Kocher said. “[Murad’s] breakthrough work in nitric oxide paved the way for a new understanding of how blood flow impacts heart health, endurance and performance. … Our early partnerships with local researchers and The University of Texas built credibility and proved our science in real time.”

Based in Westlake, Humann offers a range of products targeting cardiovascular health, blood pressure, cholesterol, metabolism, joint health and cognitive health. Products include:
Beet-based nitric oxide supplements to support blood flow and cardiovascular healthPowder drink mixes to support energy, endurance and recoveryCapsule supplements to support heart health and blood pressureChewable supplements to improve circulation and cardiovascular supportAccording to Kocher, the products are developed with clinical research, including peer-reviewed and university-led studies, and guided by a science advisory board and an in-house scientist.
“Our belief is that since the 60,000 miles of blood vessels in your body is what powers all the cells in your body, that healthy blood flow is the force multiplier of human performance,” Kocher said. “At the core of it all is better circulation because when your blood flows better, you are better.”
Why it matters
Humann has been utilized by nearly 200 professional and collegiate sports programs and 6,000 medical professionals across the United States, Kocher said, and is the official cardiovascular supplement of Texas Athletics used by UT Austin’s Longhorns athletic teams.
The products can also be found in more than 30,000 retail locations including retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Target and Walmart, which Kocher said reflects a “growing public demand” for wellness solutions.
“People are becoming more proactive about their heart health [and] we have made our products extremely accessible for everyone,” Kocher said. “Cardiovascular health isn’t just something to worry about when you’re older. … Better blood flow means better performance in life, not just sports, and it’s never too early to start supporting your heart.”
