The YWCA hosted a Boxing for Parkinson’s wellness event featuring pro boxer “King Julian,” blending motivation, movement, and community support.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The YWCA hosted a special wellness event focused on motivation, movement, and community, welcoming professional boxer Julian “King Julian” Delgado as a guest speaker for its Johnny B—Good Boxing for Parkinson’s Wellness program on Jan. 22.
The event brought together participants living with Parkinson’s disease for an inspiring testimony followed by a group boxing workout designed to support mobility and overall wellness.
Organizers said the goal was to promote empowerment and provide a supportive environment through physical activity.
Delgado, a Coastal Bend native and Golden Gloves champion, shared how boxing shaped his own life and why he wanted to give back.
“To know there’s a program here, Boxing for Parkinson’s at the YWCA in Corpus Christi — why wouldn’t I want to be part of it?” Delgado said. “I just want to share my story and how boxing has helped me.”
In addition to speaking, Delgado demonstrated some of his favorite boxing techniques, encouraging participants as they worked through the group workout. The event also included time for photos and autographs after the session.
YWCA leaders said the event reflected the organization’s broader mission of eliminating racism and empowering women, while supporting community wellness initiatives such as Boxing for Parkinson’s.
