Disney is one of the most recognizable brands on the planet, which makes it all the more shocking that The Beauty has claimed Disney+’s #2 spot. The House of Mouse, known predominantly for children’s animation, has certainly come a long way over the years as it claimed ownership of other properties. A prime example of this is Disney’s 2009 acquisition of Marvel Entertainment. Now, we don’t blink an eye at blockbuster Avengers projects championing the Disney logo. Once upon a time, however, it would have seemed strange.

If the association between Disney and Marvel felt off in the past, it’s nothing compared to Disney+’s current lineup. According to Flix Patrol, one of the top trending TV shows on the platform is the TV-M-rated body horror, The Beauty. This series, based on the gruesome comic books of the same name, follows two detectives as they investigate a sexually transmitted disease that transforms the affected’s appearance. It grants beauty, but at a gruesome cost.

How The Beauty Became One Of Disney+/Hulu’s Top Trending TV Shows

The Beauty is far from the kind of show that we would typically associate with Disney+. Regardless, it is currently among the platform’s top performers. It’s followed up by much more predictable Disney projects, like Percy Jackson and the Olympians (#5) and Pole to Pole with Will Smith (#6), both of which only emphasize just how out of place The Beauty seems.

Disney+’s new unlikely TV champion gained its status thanks to Disney’s acquisition of Hulu. The Beauty comes from Ryan Murphy Productions and airs on the FX network. Since FX projects stream on Hulu in the US, this disturbing body horror is technically part of Disney+’s library.

Disney+ Fully Absorbing Hulu Will Continue To Change The Streaming Platform

Of course, The Beauty isn’t exactly marketed next to Disney Princess movies, and the show itself doesn’t carry the House of Mouse logo. While it made sense for the company to take overt ownership over Marvel Entertainment, mature titles from FX and Hulu are another story. Still, this doesn’t change the fact that Disney is directly profiting from The Beauty, and this financial success will continue to influence the streamer’s library.

Disney is gradually closing Hulu as a standalone app throughout 2026 in an effort to fully merge its library with its own. So, while there is currently a separate platform for Hulu, that will no longer be the case by 2027. Still, Disney is keeping the Hulu brand alive, and shows like The Beauty are exactly why. The House of Mouse will keep its good name, but we’ll all know what happens behind the scenes.
