Phytotech-derived Collagen

Recent launches in personal care include Aveda’s Advanced Botanical Kinetics Plumping Cream with phytotech collagen. As the company website explains, “through advanced phytotechnology, adaptive plants on vertical farms are given a blueprint for Type 1 collagen bioidentical to a fragment of skin’s collagen. Once absorbed, the plants begin generating fragments of pure, potent vegan collagen within their leaf tissue. These fragments are gently extracted and filtered for use in our Advanced Botanical Kinetics formulas, while leftover plant material is transformed into nutrient-rich compost.”

According to the brand website, the product’s Vegan Peptide Complex has been shown to firm and visibly smooth lines and wrinkles. In clinical testing, 100% of users instantly had smoother skin (n = 27) after one application. In addition, users experienced hydrating effects that lasted up to 48 hr (n = 27) after one product use. Additional claims include plump skin, improved barrier strength and radiance, and redness reduction.

Vegan Collagen with a Twist

The brand Rehab provides another example. It rolled out a skin care system, the Hydration Prescription Skin Care Collection, for a “complete hydration and glow ritual” that features synthetic vegan collagen sheet masks. Per the brand, the collagen helps to improve the look of skin firmness and elasticity.

The vegan collagen is paired with:

A probiotic ferment to strengthen and soothe skinNiacinamide to brighten and even tone for a healthy glowHyaluronic acid to draw in moisture for lasting hydrationPlant Proteins to nourish and condition skin, enhancing its softnessChanging Lifestyles and Aging

Grand View Research points to three key drivers of the collagen market’s growth. The increasing awareness and adoption of vegan and plant-based lifestyles among consumers is one. Another is the U.S. population growing older — the body produces less collagen, impacting joint health, hair and nail growth, and osteoarthritis, among other things. Demand by the beauty industry is the third.
