Lucknow: Sustained campaigns are going to be organised across the state to monitor the alertness and fitness levels of the drivers involved in transporting heavy motor vehicles. Concerned about the safety of road users, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday held a meeting of the UP State Road Fund Management Committee to check the preparedness of various departments. The committee is headed by Yogi. Emphasising strong enforcement of the rules, Yogi said that regular check-ups of individuals found at the steering wheels of heavy motor vehicles need to be conducted randomly across the state, and the fitness of the motor vehicles too shall be reviewed. Accidents on high-speed corridors are often caused by fatigue and carelessness of drivers, but severe consequences have to be faced if a heavy vehicle is found involved in such accidents. UP CM said that roads are the foundation of the state’s economic development, as industries and investors prefer to set up their units in a location which has strong connectivity and infrastructure. The meeting reviewed the proposed action plan and financial provisions earmarked for the year 2025-26. Yogi said that the annual action plans of various departments should be prepared and approved by the end of April. He said that new technology should be explored to bring down the construction cost as well as the time period required to execute a project. “The results of every project should be visible on the ground within the stipulated timeframe.”The committee shall evaluate and review the performance of various stakeholders at least 2 times in a year.
