Given that she plays the lead role in a mega-popular video game-turned-TV show, you would think English actor Ella Purnell had to endure an ultra-crazy exercise regimen to prepare for the project. Not so, says the 29-year-old star of Prime Video’s Fallout (now in its second season).

“I’ve never had to do a workout routine for a role before,” Ella admits to Women’s Health in the latest episode of the video series Well Said. “I feel very lucky—I know a lot of people have faced a lot of pressure to do that.”

However, that isn’t to say Ella (whom you may also recognize from Showtime’s Yellowjackets) has never felt pushed to her limits by a workout. “I did do reformer Pilates once, and let me tell you, that was no joke. I will not be doing that again.”

Pilates classes aside, Ella says she does count regular movement as a key ritual for feeling her best.

“We need four things,” she says. “We need eight hours of sleep a night. We need to drink a lot of water. We need to exercise, and we need to eat three meals a day that are healthy. No human can do all four. Every human that I know struggles in one of those departments.”

More Well Said:

So, when Ella herself is struggling and feeling low energy, she does a check-in to figure out which area she needs to get back into balance. “It’s about going back to basics,” she says.
