Refractive Lens Exchange, or RLE, is an advanced surgical procedure providing patients an opportunity to reduce or eliminate their dependence on glasses or contact lenses. Similar to cataract surgery, RLE removes the eye’s natural lens and replaces it with a clear lens implant called an intraocular lens (IOL).

RLE is an option for those 50 and older who experience extreme nearsightedness, farsightedness or presbyopia — age related loss of near vision caused by the natural lens becoming less flexible over time. Unlike LASIK or PRK, RLE addresses the root cause of aging vision by replacing the lens itself before a cataract forms.

Patients choosing RLE have access to advanced technology IOLs that can be customized to match their lifestyle needs.
