LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – A new wellness program kicked off today at the Lawton farmers market.

“A Way to Wellness” is a free eight-week program designed to help participants build healthy habits. The program focuses on preventing diabetes and heart disease, boosting energy, and helping participants feel better.

Participants will receive a ten-dollar farmers market incentive each week and support to lose up to five percent of their body weight.

“It’s really to just gage where you’re at and it’s helpful because it’s not just numbers on a scale. We’re looking at your blood pressure. One of the things is checking a food and activity log to see how food and different activities affect your mental health,” said Melissa Simms, community engagement and health planning manager.

The program runs Saturdays from ten to eleven in the morning.
