Valentine’s Day is coming up so maybe you’ll consider a workout with your sweetheart? Here are the benefits of that.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Going out for a meal and buying chocolate and roses are all common on Valentine’s Day – but a local fitness expert says, “Why not work out?”

Flip Garcia, of MiLEO Fitness and Nutrition, says working out with your girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, wife, partner… can provide a lot of benefits.

“You know, one of the big ones really is, is that having that accountability in home, right? You have somebody there with you to hold each other accountable. But it’s also about getting healthy together. That’s the important thing, right? Getting stronger and getting healthy together just helps encourage each other to really train and work out together, really focus on nutrition and the workouts themselves can be fun,” Garcia said.

A little friendly competition goes a long way too, as long as it is healthy. How do you start with working out?

“So, simple ways to start, really, is just you can work out at home. I mean, there’s YouTube videos, just doing simple, short workouts to start. Nothing too crazy, nothing too dynamic,” Garcia said. “Something that you can both ease into, all depending on where your fitness level is. Start by doing a little bit of yoga stretches, low body weight workouts. It’s pretty basic.”

Nutrition is also very important. Garcia recommends making meals together so you are both keeping each other accountable and staying healthy together.
