FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, Md. – The Navy’s new physical fitness standards are in full effect at Cryptologic Warfare Group SIX. Sailors assigned to CWG-6 were briefed in accordance with the latest Physical Readiness Program (PRP) NAVADMIN 264/25, Jan. 23, 2026, to ensure they will be prepared to meet the higher expectations by the first Physical Fitness Assessment cycle of 2026.
The changes to Navy-wide fitness standards were published in December 2025. This new instruction included daily physical training requirements, increased frequency of PFA cycles, modifications to body composition assessment procedures, and revised consequences for PFA failures.
“Enhanced physical fitness directly contributes to improved performance in all facets of a Sailor’s life and, most critically, to their operational effectiveness,” Chief Cryptologic Warfare Technician Shane Guokas, command fitness leader of CWG-6 said. “The integration of physical training into the workday is a valuable addition that fosters a culture of fitness and contributes to a more resilient and capable force.”
The command fitness team have been attending meetings and hands on training sessions, so every ACFL is equipped to assist Sailors and conduct the quickly approaching PFA in accordance with the new PRP instruction OPNAVINST 6110.1L and its accompanying guides. Ten-week notices were sent out to the command in addition to the all-hands brief detailing the new fitness standards. Adapting to the new standards requires commands to strategize the most efficient way to conduct PFAs, which is the main responsibility of the command fitness leader.
“My role as an assistant command fitness leader (ACFL) is to inform, encourage, and help Sailors set and reach their fitness goals,” Logistics Specialist 1st Class Ricardo Villalon, an ACFL assigned to CWG-6 said. “We’re here for them.”
Although the CFL team runs fitness tests twice a year, their goal is to provide year-round support. Sailors can reach out to the CFL team for physical training, fitness advice, and clarification on new standards. CWG-6 delivers information warfare capabilities to the U.S. Navy to conduct signals intelligence and cyberspace operations for naval and joint forces.
