COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Midnight’s name fits her perfectly: a sleek black beauty with bright white markings on her face and the most unforgettable bat ears.
But her journey to this moment began in heartbreak.
Midnight, a 2-year-old mixed breed dog, is now healthy, playful, and full of life — but she came to Columbus Humane in mid-January as part of an animal cruelty investigation, severely emaciated after being found abandoned inside an apartment.
Midnight’s name fits her perfectly: a sleek black beauty with bright white markings on her face and the most unforgettable bat ears.
Rescuers say she was dangerously underweight and in desperate condition when a Good Samaritan discovered her and alerted authorities.
Thanks to humane agents who stepped in, a dedicated veterinary team, and weeks of care from staff and volunteers, Midnight survived — and transformed.
She was immediately placed on a careful refeeding program, and little by little, the timid, broken dog began to heal.
Today, Midnight weighs about 40 pounds and has become an exuberant, sweet companion who’s ready for a fresh start.
Meet Midnight
Columbus Humane says Midnight is:
Sweet, friendly, and playfulGreat with other dogsA little shy, so she’d likely do best with older childrenNot yet tested with cats, but she may do well with proper introductions
Midnight’s story is a reminder of both the cruelty animals can endure — and the resilience they’re capable of when given a second chance.
How to report animal cruelty in Central Ohio
Columbus Humane investigates reports of abuse, neglect, and abandonment across the region. Officials encourage anyone who suspects an animal is being mistreated to speak up.
When a report is made, humane agents evaluate the situation, respond when necessary, and work with law enforcement and the courts to ensure animals are protected and receive medical care.
