A new outdoor fitness race combining running endurance with strongman-inspired strength challenges is coming to Harrow.

ATHCO, a high-intensity hybrid fitness event, will take place at the Bannister Outdoor Sports Track in Harrow on Saturday, May 16.

The event is designed to test speed, stamina, and strength, offering a fully outdoor alternative to indoor competitions like HYROX.

Will Wells, founder of ATHCO and a personal trainer from Ruislip, said: “Over the past 25 years, I’ve built an incredible fitness community—people of all ages and abilities who’ve trained together, supported each other, and grown in confidence as well as fitness.

“ATHCO is about taking that spirit to a bigger stage and giving something back to the local area. It’s open to everyone, whether you’re competing solo or as a pair, and whether it’s your first event or your next big challenge.”

The ATHCO format features eight 800-metre runs, each followed by a strongman-inspired strength station. Participants will alternate between running and functional challenges at each station until all eight are complete.

Each strength station will involve movements such as lifting, pressing, dragging, pushing, and carrying. The exercises are designed to be challenging but accessible, catering to a variety of fitness levels.

The event is open to both solo competitors and same-sex pairs, and is expected to appeal to both seasoned athletes and first-time participants. Unlike indoor fitness races, ATHCO will be held entirely outdoors on a professional athletics track. Athletes will also have access to designated warm-up and recovery areas.

The setting will include spectator zones, live DJs, and digitally-timed results to create a high-energy, festival atmosphere.

Performance data will be recorded using track sensors and marked strength zones to ensure results are accurate, transparent, and verifiable.

The event is free for spectators to attend.

Entry costs £75 for solo competitors and £130 for doubles. To mark the launch, readers can receive a 10 per cent discount on entry using the code ATHCO10 until February 28.
