Vitamin C (also known as Ascorbic Acid) is a safe and effective supplement that is cheap, easy to find and truly beneficial. It is found naturally in fruit and veg, but can be safely supplemented to a level higher than would easily be available through food alone. There is good evidence that taking vitamin C for colds and flu can reduce the risk of developing further complications such as pneumonia and lung infections.

🔘 Vitamin C is a great antioxidant and affords excellent protection against cardiovascular disease, cancer and even skin wrinkling.
🔘 Boosts the body’s natural immune system to fight off day-to-day illness and infection.
🔘 One study in the AJC Journal found those with high vitamin C levels in their blood were associated with a 42% lower risk of stroke.
🔘 Most people can safely tolerate 2,000mg a day, taken on two, 1,000mg doses. In the short term this may be boosted to 3,000mg when the body is under extreme stress.
🔘 As a supplement, it can be taken in pill form or as a powder, which is easier and cheaper. A quarter teaspoon is about 1,000mg.

Too much Vitamin C may cause mild stomach upset, so watch out for this if you are heavily supplementing.
