Cuiabano has missed a second straight Vasco match as he builds fitness towards a debut. According to Globo.com, the left-back was not included for Saturday’s Carioca quarter-final against Volta Redonda.
The issue is physical. He arrived short of match rhythm compared with team-mates and has also had thigh discomfort in recent days.
In recent weeks he featured for Nottingham Forest’s under-21s after falling outside the first-team plans of then head coach Sean Dyche. He played twice in English youth competitions, where the tempo is well below senior level.
Having joined training last weekend, the Vasco staff intend to use this period to put the number 66 in contention for the next match. There is no guarantee of minutes, the plan is to build his rhythm without rushing.
He has said the Vasco project convinced him, adding it would have been difficult to play at Forest. His signing was celebrated internally as the club sought left-back reinforcements, and he arrives after two seasons at Botafogo that included the 2024 Conmebol Libertadores and Brasileirão titles.
