Day six of New York Fashion Week wrapped on an early but bright note, leading with New York’s premiere indie designers on the lineup: Dennis Brasso, Veejay Floresca, and Chuks Collins. Their collections set the tone for the day, serving us cultural reverence which extended to beauty street style.
One highlight of the day was the glam moment from Chuks Collins‘ “Ancestral Futures” collection. The models at the presentation donned “your skin but better” makeup looks keyed by MAC Cosmetics and accented with bold bordeaux-colored lips that demanded attention. Honoring the “ancestral” inspiration behind the collection, several models wore traditional cornrows from the scalp, a styling choice that tied the entire moment together and grounded the idea behind Collins’ designs.
On the fashion week streets, attendees showcased a culmination of beauty sentiments observed throughout the week. The ESSENCE beauty team noted elaborate headpieces paired with sleek buns, a continuation of protective textured styles that were in full motion for the week, from classic middle parts to a stunning pink short cut.
But for the final day, the “Classic Man” aesthetic took center stage. Black men showed up and out, sporting freshly trimmed beards, sharp lineups and blemish-free skin. This approach to men’s beauty and grooming proved that the Black man who invests in his appearance isn’t taboo and will always be in style.
We now have enough inspiration to carry us through until September 2026, with runway and street style looks that will influence trends for the next couple of months to come.
