SEOUL — CJ Olive Young Corp., South Korea’s leading health and beauty retailer, said Wednesday it has opened its first wellness-focused outlet, branded “Olive Better,” in Seoul as part of a broader growth strategy, with a second store planned later in the year.

The new wellness curation platform is designed to expand the company’s business beyond K-beauty and foster growth in the emerging K-wellness market, the company said.

Olive Better broadens Olive Young’s existing health category into the wider wellness sector under the concept of “healthy beauty,” aiming to promote healthier lifestyles in line with rising global demand for wellness-related consumption.

“While the global wellness market has continued to grow since the COVID-19 pandemic, offline touchpoints that provide personalized recommendations and hands-on experiences remain limited,” a company official said. “Olive Better will help address these challenges.”

The inaugural store, located in Gwanghwamun in central Seoul, offers more than 3,000 wellness products from around 500 brands. CJ Olive Young plans to open a second outlet in the affluent Gangnam district of southern Seoul within the year.

An Olive Better app-in-app service is also available through Olive Young’s mobile application to enhance customer experience.

As of end-September, CJ Olive Young operated 1,394 stores nationwide. The company currently sells products overseas only through online platforms and does not operate brick-and-mortar stores abroad.

However, it plans to open its first U.S. outlet in California in May, viewing the United States and Japan as key strategic markets for global expansion amid rising international interest in K-beauty.

In 2024, the company opened an office in Japan to distribute its cosmetics through local retail channels.

CJ Olive Young posted a net profit of 475.99 billion won (US$329 million) in 2024, up 32 percent from a year earlier. Its 2025 earnings results will be available next month.
