Winter weather doesn’t have to mean the end of fitness routines. Stay active with these indoor workouts, like donation-based yoga classes and budget-friendly drop-in basketball games.

Free and donation-based classes

Spend an afternoon at Monona Terrace’s Yoga Core, a free all-levels, strength-centric yoga practice. Expect a mix of seated and standing yoga poses at this mat-based class, where you’ll increase “strength, stability and mobility.” Sign-ups can be made in person on the day of or in advance online if opting for virtual access. Mondays and Fridays through May 22 (excluding March 13, May 8 and May 15), noon-12:45 p.m., 1 John Nolen Drive

Attend a donation-based community class at Main Street Yoga Center. Any amount (including $0) is accepted and can be made online or placed in the studio’s donation box. Schedule and class type vary, but widely-accessible practices are highlighted. The studio is also hosting a community class weekend, with four free classes taught by yoga teacher trainees. Community class dates vary weekly, weekend event runs Saturday, Feb. 21-22, 1882 E. Main St.

Visit the Bayview Foundation’s Community Center for free Adaptive Yoga classes at the renewed building, which is part of the Madison neighborhood’s affordable housing redevelopment. The inclusive practice is open for drop-in, with no need to register ahead. Mondays through May 11, 10-11 a.m., 103 La Mariposa Lane

The Goodman Community Center‘s donation-based Easy Yoga Plus class for older adults incorporates “somatic yoga flows” that ease chronic pain and increase mobility, among other benefits. Participants need to bring their own mat, should they wish to use one. Mondays at alternating times, 149 Waubesa St.

Fitness for $15 a session and less

The Goodman Community Center also offers $5 All Levels Yoga classes for practitioners of all ages. The inclusive practice is based on Vinyasa yoga principles, with the option to modify each pose to fit your unique practice abilities. Participants need to bring their own mat, should they wish to use one. Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, 149 Waubesa St.

Drop in on a discount day at Boulders Climbing Gym for a $15 day pass and rental package. These walk-in discount dates include first-timer Tuesdays, student Saturdays and any day for people with valid first responder or military identification. Rentals are available for shoes ($5) and chalk ($2). Discounts apply various days, 129 S. Carroll St.

Adults can learn burlesque, ballet, cardio or belly dancing at Dance Life Studio & Fitness for $10-15 per class. The studio’s mission is to create an inclusive, uplifting space for all bodies, with an emphasis on having fun. A $15 per month virtual class model is also available, with access to belly dancing, burlesque fundamentals and other recorded classes. All classes include difficulty level notations to help participants understand their options. 6725 Seybold Road

Take a dip at open or lap swim sessions with a Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) pool pass. Passes cost $25 for the winter/spring 2026 season for a 14-punch card (one punch per child, two per adult). Play basketball, badminton, pickleball or floor hockey for $10 at the Dane County YMCA adult recreation drop-ins. Activity schedules vary across East, West and Sun Prairie locations
