ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – Gym-goers fled from a Crunch Fitness on Tuesday after a gym member pulled a firearm on another member, according to the Altamonte Springs Police Department.

In an arrest report, police said they were called to the gym along State Road 434 on Tuesday about a “disturbance involving a firearm.”

Upon arrival, they learned that a gym member — later identified as Winston Medley, 35 — had pulled a gun from his waistband in the gym and pointed it at two other people, police added.

Investigators said a victim told them he had been working out at the gym with some other people when Medley came up and commented on how much weight they were using, calling them “weak.”

A brief argument broke out, though Medley eventually walked away, and the victim’s group moved on to another area of the gym to continue their workout, the report states.

However, Medley apparently approached the victim again, repeatedly asking whether “he had a problem with him,” investigators noted.

“(The victim) said he told Medley he did not have a problem but that he was acting aggressively and needed to stop,” the report reads.

Shortly thereafter, the victim said, Medley pulled out the firearm and pointed it in the victim’s face, causing the latter to turn and run.

“While running, (the victim) said he looked back and saw Medley manipulating the gun as if he was attempting to fire or adjust it,” the report continues. “(The victim) believed he was about to be shot in the back and ran as fast as possible.”

Other witnesses later told police they believed Medley had pulled the trigger, but it seemed as though the gun may have been jammed. Either way, Medley was spotted fleeing the area after the incident.

Officers said they were later able to find Medley in a car near a Winter Springs McDonald’s. However, he reportedly refused to provide many details about what happened.

“Medley told officers that he does not ‘play’ with firearms,” the report says. “At one point, Medley told officers the object in his hand was a ‘king-size Snickers bar.’”

Now, Medley faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, and possession of a weapon by a felon. He is held on no bond.
