With ongoing conflict in the DRC (Democratic Republic of the Congo), severe hunger and malnutrition are common throughout villages. War between government forces and armed rebel groups over the past years forced many people from their homes. Recently, some families have returned to their villages, but starting their lives over is unimaginably hard. With little food available, children became malnourished. When our staff visited, they saw children with thin arms and legs, patches of hair missing, and swollen stomachs.

Twice a week, contacts from the region give nutritional porridge to children to help ease hunger, along with food distributions for the families. These families also receive packets of seeds to grow their own food. As they continue to settle into their homes, they have been transforming their fields and gardens in hopes of one day becoming more self-sufficient and providing nutritional food for themselves and their loved ones.
