Team USA’s Alysa Liu took home the gold medal in the women’s figure skating event Thursday with a fast-paced and upbeat free skate program. The victory snapped a 24-year drought for Team USA in the event and marked a milestone in the young skater’s return to the sport.

This is Liu’s second medal at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics. She earned her first in the team event with other members of Team USA on Feb. 8. She earned a score of 76.59 in her short program on Tuesday to finish in third place, but it was her free skate that earned her a score of 150.20 and pushed her into first place with a total score of 226.79.
