In a darkened studio in Palos Heights, riders clip into their bikes as music pulses and candles flicker. What started as a spark of inspiration more than a decade ago has grown into a four-year milestone for Heights Cycle.

Owner Megan Wenstrup said the anniversary feels especially meaningful.

“I must say that I am someone that loves to celebrate birthdays, so that was already part of who I am,” Wenstrup said. “But, for the business to turn four, well, that is extra special.”

Riders pedal in sync at Heights Cycle in Palos Heights, celebrating four years of community, movement, and motivation.

Each year in business, she said, represents long hours, hard-fought victories, tough lessons, growth and change. Most of all, she is grateful to the Palos Heights community for embracing the studio and making its success possible.

The idea for Heights Cycle first took shape in 2011 during a visit to New York City, where Wenstrup experienced her first rhythm-based indoor cycling class.

“A big idea was sparked in 2011 when I visited New York City and took my first rhythm riding Indoor Cycling class,” she said, noting that those classes were then largely limited to cities like New York and Los Angeles. She wanted to bring that energy to the Chicago area.

Wenstrup immersed herself in the industry, taking and teaching classes and earning four cycling certifications. Over time, the workout became more than exercise. She described it as an artistic expression and a way to balance family life while contributing financially.

After 11 years of trying to open her own studio, Wenstrup believed the dream had ended. Then, as the world reopened after the pandemic, she was approached about purchasing Revival Cycle, a local studio with a dedicated membership base and instructors.

“After all I’d learned and the hard-earned experience I had gained, I could not pass up the opportunity, so Heights Cycle was born on February 1, 2022,” she said.

Four years later, the studio has built a loyal following and a reputation as a welcoming space for riders of all fitness levels.

The anniversary celebration reflects that spirit.

“We are going to gather to do what we love the most loud music, movement, and some motivation,” Wenstrup said.

The weekend includes a special Friday night class and party with food from Meshico, where annual awards such as Top Rider, Most Valuable Rider and Rookie of the Year will be presented. Raffles, giveaways and refreshments from Clean Eatz and PH Nutrition will follow on Saturday and Sunday. The celebration concludes with a Sunday afternoon Soul Fuel class, a worship-style workout set to praise music, offered at a $4 drop-in rate.

Running the studio means wearing many hats, from cleaning and maintenance to teaching classes and managing finances. Wenstrup said what she values most is witnessing people strive to better themselves.

“We are in the ‘feel good’ business and it’s an honor to be a part of that for the people we meet along the way,” she said.

Wenstrup describes Heights Cycle as a reflection of the Palos Heights community. The studio welcomes riders of all ages, body types and fitness levels, creating an environment where members encourage one another and explore their potential.

“It’s more than just a workout,” she said. “It’s a special place where movement meets music and motivation. It’s a place where you belong.”

Four years after opening its doors, Heights Cycle continues to spin forward, powered by perseverance, gratitude and a community that keeps showing up.
