GREENPORT, NY — Robert J. Syron, president and CEO of Peconic Landing, has been recognized as one of the Top 5 Wellness Executives in North America by the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) and NuStep, LLC.

The prestigious honor was announced at the 2025 ICAA Conference and Expo in Anaheim, CA, as part of the ICAA NuStep Best in Wellness Awards.

In addition to Syron’s individual recognition, Peconic Landing earned a Pinnacle Award for the second consecutive year, distinguishing it as one of the top five senior living communities in North America for wellness. In 2024, Peconic Landing was ranked number one in North America, “and this year’s honor reinforces its position as a national leader in redefining aging through innovation and wellness,” Peconic Landing representatives said.

The ICAA is a professional association that leads, connects, and defines the active-aging industry, promoting wellness in 40,000 communities across 47 countries, Peconic Landing said.

According to the organization’s website, the Best in Wellness Awards celebrate organizations and leaders who embed wellness into every aspect of community life.

Winners set new standards for excellence in senior living, inspiring innovation and improving quality of life for older adults, the group said.

“Bob’s leadership has shaped Peconic Landing’s culture in so many meaningful and lasting ways,” said Eileen McGuire, chair of Peconic Landing’s board of trustees. “Over the past two decades, he has helped build an environment where people feel supported and encouraged to thrive. He leads with integrity and he does all of it with a remarkable sense of purpose.”

Syron, who has served Peconic Landing since 2003, has been a catalyst for Peconic Landing’s rapid evolution into a preeminent lifecare retirement community, representatives said.

Responsible for overseeing operations and assets, he serves more than 400 members and 300 team members. With more than 35 years of management experience, Syron holds degrees in health science and public administration and healthcare management, is a certified personal trainer, and earned the Certified Aging Services Professional designation, an honor held by only about 2,000 individuals nationwide. He is also a past recipient of the James W. Sanderson Memorial Award for Leadership in Long-Term Care from LeadingAge NY.

“These awards truly reflect the collective effort of each and every member and team member at Peconic Landing,” said Syron. “We don’t do this work for the recognition. We do it because we believe deeply in our mission, but I am honored by it and what it represents for our community. Thank you to our members for your engagement and partnership, to our leaders and team members for your dedication, and to our board of trustees for your strategic guidance which allows our efforts to grow.”

Under Syron’s leadership, Peconic Landing has invested heavily in infrastructure, programming, and education to support holistic wellness, representatives said. Initiatives include:

• Working Wonders, an award-winning employee wellness program promoting work-life balance.
• The Successful Living Committee, a member-led group shaping wellness opportunities across campus.
• Strategic partnerships introducing cutting-edge technologies and programs to enhance physical and cognitive health.
• A dining program prioritizing fresh, healthy ingredients and longevity-focused menus.
