Jeff Galloway has been around the running world for decades, but suddenly his name is popping up again thanks to a so-called “new” fitness trend: Jeffing.

And before you ask—yes, it’s spelled exactly how it sounds. J-E-F-F-I-N-G.

The idea has been making the rounds lately after a piece in The Washington Post highlighted it as a way to ease into getting in shape—especially for folks who felt inspired watching the Winter Olympics and suddenly thought, “Maybe I should dust off those sneakers.”

So what exactly is Jeffing?

Brace yourself. It’s revolutionary.

You run… and then you walk.

That’s it.

If you start to feel tired, instead of pushing through like you’re training for Boston, you slow down and walk for a bit. Then you start running again. It’s basically what most of us do naturally when we realize we may have overestimated our cardio situation—but now it has a name and a strategy behind it.

Galloway actually started using this method back in 1973 to help beginner runners. His philosophy? Don’t wait until you’re completely wiped out. Build walk breaks into your run from the start. Thirty seconds of jogging, thirty seconds of walking. Repeat. Some true beginners even start with just ten seconds of running per minute.

The whole point is to start small and not beat yourself up. It’s running with permission to chill.

Now the real question: Will this catch on in Connecticut?

Honestly? I’m not so sure.

Connecticut is kind of split down the middle when it comes to fitness. On one side, you’ve got the already-super-fit crowd who are logging serious miles before most of us hit snooze. Those folks aren’t about to schedule walk breaks. If anything, they’re trying to shave seconds off their pace, not add in snack breaks.

On the other side, you’ve got our classic hard-headed Northeasterners. You know the type. If they commit to a run, they are finishing that run. Pride is on the line. They would rather dramatically collapse at the end of the driveway than admit they need a 30-second stroll. Keeping up with the Joneses is practically cardio in this state.

And let’s be real—none of this matters at the moment anyway. We’re currently living in what feels like the Hoth weather system. Until this winter thaws and actual human life resumes outdoors, the only sprint most of us are doing is from the car to the front door.

So will Jeffing take over Connecticut running trails this spring?

It’s a nice idea. It’s practical. It makes sense.

But here? In this state?

The healthy people won’t want the break, and the stubborn ones won’t take it.

My prediction? Jeffing probably isn’t catching on in CT.
