After a weekend switching off, Monday often feels like the hardest day of the week… and the last thing I want to do is set my alarm early to get to the gym before the commute.

But for any reluctant start-of-the-week exercisers like me, inspiration has arrived in the form of an Instagram post from Baroness Karren Brady. Captioned: ‘Getting my Monday morning sweat on’, she says: ‘I love cycling outdoors, but with this weather I’m more than happy to keep warm and get my workout in at @davidlloydclubs. Who else has kicked off their week with a workout?’

At this time of year, with the unpredictable British weather, stationary exercise bikes really come into their own. And – bonus – they’re also brimming with features to keep you motivated, from adjustable resistance to HD screens and virtual cycling trips around the world. Here, the Good Housekeeping Institute’s testing team have rated the very best.

But even with the prospect of an indoor rather than outdoor workout, it can be challenging to find the get-up-and-go on a Monday morning. Baroness Brady recently revealed to The Sun she has a very ‘set routine’ when it comes to exercise. And she’s also revealed how important consistency and discipline is in her world – particularly when it comes to her career.

‘In the early years of my career, I ran on motivation,’ she shared on Instagram. ‘I loved the rush of new opportunities, the spark of inspiration, and the excitement of starting something new. Motivation made me bold – it helped me leap into challenges others hesitated to take. But I also learned that motivation is temporary. It can fade when things get difficult, when progress slows, or when the novelty wears off.

‘That’s where discipline comes in. Discipline isn’t glamorous. It doesn’t offer an instant rush. But it’s what keeps progress moving on the days when motivation disappears. It’s what builds consistency, develops skills, and turns intentions into sustainable outcomes. Discipline is the force that transforms late nights into completed projects and goals into habits.’
