The Animal Protective Foundation is hosting a free community pet wellness clinic for dogs on Monday, March 24, at Benson’s Pet Center in Rotterdam. The event will provide essential preventative care services at no cost to pet owners who need assistance.
Dogs attending the clinic will receive rabies and distemper vaccinations, microchipping services, and flea and tick medication. Registration is required and can be completed through the foundation’s website. All services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
The wellness clinics are intended for low-income, homeless, or financially struggling pet owners throughout the Capital Region. The foundation’s veterinarians and staff conduct brief exams and provide recommendations for follow-up care when necessary. Microchips, which are small devices implanted between a pet’s shoulder blades, can help reunite lost pets with their owners when properly registered.
The Animal Protective Foundation recently completed a similar clinic that provided care to 88 dogs. The organization partners with the Banfield Foundation to offer these free clinics quarterly at various locations. The foundation emphasizes that these wellness clinics are for preventative care only and cannot treat chronic medical conditions requiring full-service veterinary attention.
Pet owners interested in attending future clinics should note that the foundation’s next scheduled event is March 24 at Lisha Kill Reformed Church, specifically for cats only. The Animal Protective Foundation is located at 53 Maple Avenue in Glenville, and operates Tuesday through Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
