Locals rarely associate bustling Brickell with stillness and serenity, but a new sound-healing and wellness space — a self-described urban ashram — aims to change that reputation and bring some much-needed tranquility to a fast-moving city.

Quantum Temple, which opened in late January at 1140 SW Second Ave., specializes in sessions that utilize vibroacoustic waterbeds, sound bowls, and other instruments to create a first-of-its-kind wellness experience in the U.S. Founder Luisa Ocampo says the custom-made waterbeds, handcrafted in Colombia, provide full-body relaxation and restoration, allowing sound vibrations to move simultaneously through the water and the body.

“People feel like they are floating, or it can remind them of when they were in the uterus of their mother,” Ocampo tells New Times. “[The waterbeds] transport the vibrations of all the ancient instruments that we play here easily to your fascia, to your muscles, to your lymphatic system, your nervous system, and all the systems in your body.”

Ocampo, who is from Colombia, began training with sound healing, yoga, meditation, and Reiki to heal from childhood trauma. “I wanted to share with the world what really helped me,” she shares.

While some wellness spaces might come across as insular or intimidating, Quantum Temple insists that it is a “dogma-free” environment, open to anyone regardless of language, beliefs, or physical abilities. Ocampo says the space has already welcomed practitioners in wheelchairs, non-native speakers, and guests who are new to sound healing.

In addition to sound-focused sessions, the studio offers movement classes, including QiGong, mat and sculpt Pilates, and four types of yoga classes, each inspired by the elements. Sound healing sessions start at $50 and can be booked through Mindbody, with several package options available. For wider community reach, the studio also hosts free daily meditation classes Monday through Friday at 6:30 a.m.

Quantum Temple is one of several new wellness spaces that have opened in Miami in recent months, including Little River’s Wild Thing studio, which recently launched a collaboration with celebrity-favorite brand Alo Yoga, and Tracy Anderson’s Coral Gables studio, which opened with a visit from its eponymous owner.
