One of Disney’s most impressive attractions is now closed to guests.

For decades, Walt Disney Imagineering has produced standout attractions across the globe. From Disneyland’s early days – where classic attractions such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion utilized innovative technology to immerse guests in fantastical worlds – to its newer theme parks, the company is synonymous with themed excellence.

In recent years, some of Disney’s standout attractions include Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure at Shanghai Disneyland, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT, and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland.

The latter is commonly cited as the company’s most ambitious and impressive ride. It utilizes multiple ride systems, such as a motion simulator and a trackless ride vehicle (although its ambition has also proven to be its downfall in the past).

However, we’d argue that one other Disney attraction is equally impressive – which makes its recent closure even more frustrating.

Disney’s Most Impressive Ride To Date

Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast is a trackless dark ride that sends guests through the world of Beauty and the Beast (1991). First opened in 2020 at Tokyo Disneyland as part of the park’s biggest expansion to date, the attraction is similar to Rise of the Resistance in terms of scale and the fact that it uses a trackless system (although, unlike Rise of the Resistance, the vehicles are shaped like teacups).

Throughout the ride, guests encounter 35 electric Audio-Animatronics figures in settings such as the ballroom, courtyard, and dining room, as seen in the film. Every second of the experience is a visual feast, but the most iconic moment sees the Beast transform into his human form with the help of a Pepper’s Ghost illusion.

Unsurprisingly, the attraction tends to generate lengthy lines. Disney Premier Access often sells out early, and when lines hit a certain point, the park has been known to block the standby line to regular guests.

Now, however, the attraction is closed to all guests.

Tokyo Disney Resort has shuttered the attraction for temporary maintenance from February 27 to March 9, 2026.

It’s far from the only attraction closed at the park right now. Dumbo the Flying Elephant is off limits to all guests until the end of July, having closed in January. Mickey’s Philharmagic and Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin are also closed.

Meanwhile, the Swiss Family Treehouse has been closed since 2022. The walkthrough experience shows no signs of reopening, with concept art previously shared by Tokyo Disney Resort’s owner, the Oriental Land Company, suggesting that it will meet a permanent end to make way for new experiences inspired by the likes of Up (2009) in the future.

Tokyo Disney Resort has not confirmed the reasons behind Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast’s closure. However, considering its relatively short timeframe, it seems safe to assume that it involves no major changes.
