From groundbreaking startups to industry leaders, Nutrition Capital Network (NCN) alumni are shaping the future of the nutrition, health and wellness industries. At this year’s Natural Products Expo West, NCN alumni are taking center stage, showcasing their resilience, innovation and success across a wide range of categories and stages of growth. These companies, some of which presented at NCN more than a decade ago, continue to thrive, demonstrating the enduring value of NCN’s network and the markets it serves.

Supplements: A year of growth and opportunity

NCN declared 2025 the “Year of the Supplements,” and for good reason. According to NCN’s 2026 Investment Outlook report, supplements accounted for 6.3% of all transactions in 2025, a significant increase from just 1.3% in 2015. This growth reflects the rising demand for innovative health solutions, and several NCN alumni are leading the charge.

Among the exhibitors at Expo West is Biohm, a gut health and probiotic supplement maker that first presented at NCN in 2023. Thanks to the connections and exposure gained through NCN, Biohm secured a $4.25 million investment in April 2025 from European investors. Joining Biohm is Blueshift Nutrition, a powdered supplement drink mix brand that presented at NCN in 2021 and is competing in Pitch Slam on Tuesday. Blueshift’s products are now available across multiple channels, including retail and hospitality. Another standout is Natural Stacks, a 2022 NCN alumni, which has gained attention for its forward-thinking approach to cognitive health—an area of ongoing focus for NCN Investor Members. Additionally, Nutrastrips, a provider of oral dissolvable supplement strips, will also be showcasing its innovative products on the show floor.

Beverages: A legacy of success

Beverages have long been a cornerstone of NCN’s portfolio, and this year’s Expo West will feature several notable alumni. One of NCN’s earliest success stories, Zico, presented in 2008, where a deal with Coca-Cola was initiated, marking the beginning of NCN’s influence in the beverage category. Zico’s journey came full circle when it was later sold and then bought back by a group of investors, including its founder, Marc Rampolla.

While the highest valuation in the beverage category belongs to publicly traded Celsius (not exhibiting at Expo West), other NCN alumni have achieved remarkable success. Suja, a well-known juice and shot company presented at NCN in 2013 during the height of the healthy juice craze. Suja later acquired another NCN alumni, Vive Organic, a functional shot beverage company that will also be exhibiting at Expo West. More recent alumni include Cure, a hydration company that raised over $5 million in 2023 and recently announced its launch in Ulta Beauty. Additionally, Waiākea Hawaiian Volcanic Water, which presented in 2014, recently achieved B Corporation certification, further solidifying its commitment to sustainability.

Philosopher Foods, a sprouted nut butter and fermented nut company, has carved out a niche with its organic, regenerative-certified product line. Quinn Snacks, which presented at NCN in 2019, has made significant strides in sustainability, recently joining a new regenerative farming commitment and verification program aimed at transforming agriculture. At NCN’s 2025 Spring Investor Meeting, Circ showcased its line of convenient, nutrient-dense snacks, proving that taste, health and sustainability can coexist seamlessly.

Sauces and spreads: Expanding horizons

The sauces and spreads category is experiencing rapid growth, and NCN alumni are at the forefront of this expansion. Just Date, founded by Dr. Sylvia Charles, offers a range of date-based sugars, syrups and chocolate chips that serve as low-glycemic sweetener alternatives. Fabalish, a brand specializing in legume-based dips, condiments and falafel bites, secured capital after presenting at NCN’s Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 events. Another standout is Maazah, a 2025 NCN alumni that is reimagining Middle Eastern cuisine with its fresh take on aiolis and chutneys. These brands exemplify the diversity and innovation of NCN alumni, making their booths a must-visit at Expo West.
